Scabies is caused by small mites (parasites) caught through close body contact. The main symptoms are itching and a rash. Scabies can be easily treated.  
Trichomoniasis (T.V) is a tiny parasite that infects the vagina and urethra (the tube that carries pee from the bladder).  Men usually have no symptoms, but women can have vaginal discharge and itching. Treated using antiiotics.  
HIV is the virus that can lead to Aquire Immune Difficiency Syndrome (AIDS). There are no immediate symptoms. People can have the virus for a long time before it is diagnosed. More effective drug treatments mean that people with HIV are living longer.    
Pubic lice or 'crabs' are tiny insects (parasites) that live in body hair and cause itching. They can be caught from close body contact and from an infected person during sex. They can be easily treated.    
Hepatitus means inflammation of the liver: the most common type are Hepatitus A, B & C. Hepatitus A can be caught through contaminated food and drink, Hepatitis B and C can be transmitted through unprottected sex or sharing drug injecting equipment. Hepatitus A & B can be prevented by vaccination. There is no vaccination against Hepatitus C but people can protect themselves by using condoms and not sharing needles.    
Syphilis is a bacterial infection passed on during sex or by an infected mother to her child during pregnancy. Symptoms may be difficult to recognise and my not show immediately.They include painless sores, a rash, flu like symptoms. Syphilis used to be very rare in the UK, but there have been outbreaks of new cases in some areas of the UK.    
Genital herpes is a viral infection that causes small blisters and sores around the genitals. There can be pain or burning when peeing and flu like symptoms. Treatment reduces the severity of the symptoms during an outbreak.    
Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection. It is possible to be infected and have no symptoms. Men are more likely to notice symptoms than women. Symptoms can include discharge from the vagina or penis and irritation when peeing.    
Warts are small fleshy growths on the genital area. They don't always appear immediately after sex and can't always be seen, particularly if they are inside the vagina or anus. They are spread by skin to skin contact during sex.  
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection. There are often no symptoms at all. Some people may get pain when peeing. It can be easily treated with antibiotics. If left untreated it can cause infertility in men and women.
